I feel like I'd been talking about greatly anticipating this show for a while now. If you remember from my last entry, I said that on the day of the show, I had my last final and then I had jet over to the Honda Center for the show.
The day before, I was telling my sister, I felt like the whole ending of the semester and seeing Rammstein in one day felt surreal- like it couldn't possibly be real life! So dramatic, I know! XD But that's seriously how I felt!
In case you didn't know, last year's show ended the 13 year absence of Rammstein live in the U.S., so what seems completely normal to German fans, or any fans throughout the world, is completely new for us. Exactly like seeing your favorite jrock band in your city. Like you can't believe it's happening!
ANYWAYS, YOU GET MY POINT.
The day of, or before, however you want to look at it, I went to sleep around 4:50am after finishing my paper and video for my class. I set my alarm for 11AM so that I could review my paper again and make any final edits, and so that I would have enough time to get to my 5pm final on time.
YEP. I HAD TO WAKE UP AT 11 FUCKING AM TO GET TO MY 5PM FINAL.
Actually, it wasn't too bad, I thought the lack of sleep was going to get to me, and that I'd need to buy a 5 hour energy once I got to school, but I was pretty much golden running on pre- concert adrenaline.
So, you might be wondering still why I got up so early for a late final. Well, like last time, I was accounting for my mum to get ready, and myself, which is at least 2 hours for me get gothed up, and then leave around 3:30PM. Normally it takes me around 20 minutes, but the stupid freeway (405) going south around that time is sooooooooooooo congested, with average speed about 10mph, stop and go all the blasted way. We got to my school around 4:20- and that was using the carpool lane.
My final was supposed to be from 5-7pm, but we didn't start watching videos till about 40 minutes late, and when it got to 7pm we still weren't done, so I left, sped walked to my car in 12 minutes (yes, the parking lot is super far away), and with legs burning and all hot and bothered, we left and got to the venue around 7:59pm!
It took us a bit to actually get to the parking lot because the streets to get into the place were packed with cars waiting to get in as well!
My mum was offended that my bag was more thoroughly searched than her purse, and that I was wanded. XD
For real though, I was wearing my demonia boots, sheer black stockings underneath my ripped tights, my skeleton dress, and a of couple slinky sweaters! It's not like I could exactly hide anything anywhere! 8p
We finally got to our seats around 8:15ish, and the pre show/ support act provided by Joe Letz of Combichrist started around 8:30 or so.
It was all kind of industrial remixes of songs like Ich Tu Dir Weh, Amerika, Pussy, Fruer Frei!, Du Hast dubstep, and a dubstep Engel. I really enjoyed all of it, I was just sitting there thinking- DAMN I want all of these songs on my ipod!! (I looked at Itunes, and it seems like they are all the remixes on the 'Made in Germany' album (so I'm gonna go out and get that. FUCK YEAH. Add that to the list of CD's I need to pick up).)
I learned my lesson from last time and brought my camera. >83
The people in the pit near the projector figured out that they could get their hands on screen. XD
Notice the finger animals in the lower right corner. LOL
There was one person that even did a bird flying/ flapping it's wings, a few dogs, bunnies, and ducks. hahahaha
AMURICUH. FUKYAH.
During the intro was when I noticed/knew this show was going to be a lot different from last years. The crowd was a lot more quite/ non participatory when Joe was trying to rile them up. I was disappointed. NO ONE in my section was yelling/ screaming/cheering. :/
And now I put a cut because I don't want to spoil the show/setlist for anyone who hasn't seen it. TEXAS, I'M LOOKING AT YOU.
But first I tell you about some crazy shit that happened...
As I was taking pictures early on, my camera started showing the sign that the battery was getting low, so I kept taking it out and putting it back in my bag. During one of those times I noticed my bag was wet, so I figured someone spilt beer on it since there was a guard rail and glass partition behind us, and people were walking through, taking pictures, etc. So I'm like 'whatever, It'll dry, no biggie.'
Then, I think it was during Mein Teil, I feel some stuff fly and hit the back of me, and I turn and look at my seat and pick a piece of the stuff up and at first I thought it was ice, since the whole someone already spilt stuff on me. And the cut was perfect ice cube shape, and was around the same size as the ice in my mom's drink... and I had it in my palm and I was seriously thinking: 'What the hell? Why isn't this ice cold?' And I turn around fully and I see the glass partition has been shattered. A little bit later, the usher woman came and had my mum, myself, and this kid that was sitting next to me get up and into the aisle while a janitor gets a broom and knocks more glass out to clean some of it up.
Here I am super pissed off thinking 'damn it! I want to watch the fucking show, not stand here and wait for the staff to clean this up!' Especially since with Mein Teil, Till is in his bloody chef's hat and apron and is trying to cook Flake.
Finally after they take some of the glass out of the wall, and sweep the glass from our seats onto the ground, they let us sit back down, and the woman asks us if we are okay, and if we got injured, and we say we're both fine, and she leaves. My mom has to throw out her drink because it got glass into it.
But that's not the end of it. Soon more staff comes, and they have their flashlights, looking at the wall, checking out the damage, etc., ALL still while the show is going! Then the janitor starts to attempt to clean the wall more with the broom, knocking more glass onto us, further detracting us from the show as we have to turn around. My mum turned around and put some of the glass that fell on us and put it on the ground the wall was on, and then the staff got that we were pissed and stopped.
UGH.
Towards the end of the show, around Amerika I think, I was taking some more pictures, and I felt something wet on my finger, and I think WTH NOW?! And I use my phone which I had out the entire time to write down the setlist to light my hand up, and I see blood coming out of my right ring finger knuckle.
UGHHHHH...
I show my mum but we don't do anything because we know we'll be taken out and I'll have to go to first aid to get it cleaned, so we wait till the end.
At the end when they turned on all the lights and everyone starts exiting, we get up and mum tells the usher woman that I got cut, and she tells us to go to customer service so we can fill out a report, tell them where we were sitting and what happened and they'll know about what happened, and she's really sorry about the whole thing.
So we go to customer service, and I'm trying to not get my coagulated blood on anyone, and my mum tells them what happened, and they say they're sorry and I should go to first aid. My mum says she was told she had to fill out a report, so they finally give us the form, and my mum asks to speak to their supervisor.
He finally gets there, story is retold, I feel like, just like the customer service people, he really doesn't care. He tells us that there was a problem with the pagers, my mum says they should've moved us to different seats, and he replies "Had he had known he would've moved us", and tells me to go to First Aid so that the medics can look at the cut before they leave. (My mum said that she saw that guy inside during the show looking at the mess with all the other people with the flashlights.)
So we go to First Aid, and an older man cleans the blood from all the spots on my hand, asks questions, and female medic takes down all my information for another report.
After I'm bandaged, we head back to customer service to finish the second part of the report, and my mum asks for a copy of it. By now it's been a while since the show ended, and security is making their rounds to make sure the place is empty. One of the guys comes up to us and asks what happened, so we tell him, and he was like 'That was you?' Apparently when my mum threw out her drink, she told him what happened and he was instantly on it. All around nice guy- he asked if I was okay, where we were from, to which he actually grew up nearby, if we were going to come back, and at the end of all of this shit, he led us out.
So, yeah. Besides all that shit, it was a great show! I'm just disappointed much of it was wrecked for me because of the whole thing.
Again, I want to say my disappointment was not because of the band, or even about getting a stupid nick, it's just how the whole situation was handled.
Of course I understand that there have been wayyyyy worse injuries that people have received in the pit, but that's the pit, you know? You go in there, you know what kind of shit you're getting into, and you expect to get a little bit messed up! There's a kind of non verbal, unwritten, yet understood by all, agreement between the attendee and the venue that when you get into the pit, if you get hurt, the injury is all on you! You knew you could get hurt, but you went in anyway!
It isn't, however, expected to get injured by something that is the venue's property and on that note, responsibility, AND have it to be handled in that way that it did.
THAT'S what irks me.
Onto better things now!
Setlist, pictures, spoilers, and highlights! inc. pictures of my hand so YE BE WARNED. There be a little bit o' blood ahead-
